Why I Built Scorekeeping by Rounds

It started because I had a cousin pass away in 2014, and so his parents, my aunt and uncle, decided to do organ donation, saving many lives in the process. They got involved with Saint Louis Transplant of America, and during the yearly trivia game I inquired about how to change the organizer's scoring format from using Excel. I found the format to be a very poor user experience from the audience's perspective.

The lady in charge said it would have to be some free tool, and at the time I was working a job that had 10% learning time, developing software for them. The tech stack there used Angular, so I decided to practice my skills and make a website. First launched to github pages with no domain, the domain came at least 6 months later. I completed this project, and adoption turned out harder than I thought.

To fundraise for his scholarship, my aunt and uncle held a disc golf tournament in his honor. They did that for several years, then migrated to a local trivia night they host every year. My niece as scorekeeper has used this scoring system every year, providing a great experience. She can edit scores on one monitor and have the scores display on the monitor projected to the audience.
